Robert I. Sperber Award

In 1998, an award was inaugurated in honor of Dr. Robert Sperber, to be given to an administrator in the Brookline Public Schools who best exemplifies his ideals. Dr. Sperber was Superintendent of Schools in Brookline from 1964 to 1982. This award honors an educator who evinces excellence in both administrative management and strong leadership skills that have brought about positive improvement in the school system. These are ideals that Dr. Sperber espoused and practiced.

The last time this award was granted was in 2013, when the Robert I. Sperber Award for Administrative Leadership was presented to Vicki C. Milstein, Principal of Brookline Early Education Programs. The Sperber Award celebrates Vicki Milstein's extraordinary life-long service to early childhood education. Throughout her career as classroom teacher, administrator, principal, and consultant to public and independent schools, Ms. Milstein has been a leader and a strong voice for providing an inclusive environment that honors each child’s unique path to achievement.

Vicki Milstein is the fourth recipient of the award. Prior recipients are Bob Weintraub (former BHS headmaster), Barbara Shea (former Lincoln School principal), and William Grady (former Director of the BHS Opportunity for Change Program).
